Mentoring is an informal relationship between two people – a mentor and a mentee. The mentor is recruited through Crestview as an individual who is respected as an experienced and successful professional in a specific career field. The mentee will be a Southwestern student who is committed to self-development.
The Opportunity
Crestview has a large number of senior professionals in various fields who are vetted and desire to have a positive impact on individuals and their career field. Mentoring provides the opportunity for these senior professionals to impart expertise, share knowledge and develop a generational awareness of the upcoming young professionals. Although not a comprehensive list this mentoring program aims to address the following needs:
· Need #1: Professional Identity- when younger employees are early in their careers, they are in need of help understanding what it means to be a professional in their working environment.
· Need #2: Career Development – mentoring helps young professions plan, develop, and manage their careers.
· Need #3: Education Support – mentoring helps bridge the gap between theory and practice. Formal education is complemented by the knowledge and hands on experience of an experienced professional.
· Need #4: Personal Character – mentoring allows individuals to develop character as they engage in a cross generational relationship.
